Access solution: Genetec and Salto collaborate

Thanks to the support of the Salto Virtual Network (SVN) by Genetec Synergis, Genetec Security Center's IP-based access control solution, users can now use it to access XS4 wireless electronic escutcheons and cylinders from Salto manage and control, the two companies announced.

The integration would enable Synergis customers to cost-effectively replace unsafe and long-term expensive mechanical locking systems with wirelessly networked door components.

No wiring 

The SVN is a data-on-card technology with patented read-write functionality and encrypted data transmission. In the SVN, the information on locking authorizations is stored on the ident medium, eliminating the need for wiring the electronic fittings and cylinders. At the same time, information about blocked ident media or, for example, battery levels in the fittings and cylinders is also written to the ident media and thus passed on. The online wall readers transfer the read data to the central server and simultaneously transmit the current locking authorizations to the ident media.

In addition to electronic fittings and cylinders, the Salto product portfolio also includes wall readers and door controls as well as locker locks, all of which are integrated into SVN. With the integration, these door components are now managed centrally in Synergis. This also includes that the access authorizations on the cards can be updated and deleted remotely when they are held in front of a wall reader.

"Customers who use traditional mechanical keys to open doors, cabinets and lockers are all too familiar with the tremendous cost and time lost when a locking system needs to be replaced or locks reprogrammed," explains Genetec's Derek Arcuri.
