I loro compiti sono fondamentali per la vita, quindi si trovano in tutte le cellule di piante, animali ed esseri umani. I microtubuli possono raggiungere una lunghezza di diversi micrometri, pari allo spessore di un capello umano medio.<\/p>\n<p>La struttura tubolare dei microtubuli consiste in una disposizione regolare di due blocchi di costruzione, le cosiddette tubuline (\u03b1-tubulina e \u03b2-tubulina). In una cellula sana, nuovi microtubuli vengono costantemente formati da questi blocchi di costruzione e distrutti di nuovo. Questo processo \u00e8 controllato da numerosi meccanismi, tra cui il cosiddetto ciclo tubulina-tirosina. L'amminoacido tirosina si attacca all'\u03b1-tubulina o viene tagliato via da essa.<\/p>\n<p>Gli enzimi che legano la tirosina all'\u03b1-tubulina sono noti da tempo. Senza questi enzimi, le cellule nervose del cervello non possono collegarsi correttamente.
