EU: New regulation on PPE adopted
The EU Parliament has adopted a new regulation on personal protective equipment. It replaces the PPE Directive 89/686/EEC .

On January 20, 2016, the European Parliament adopted the new regulation on personal protective equipment (PPE). It will come into force in 2018 and is binding for all EU member states.
The regulation replaces the previous PPE Directive 89/686/EEC and, unlike the latter, no longer needs to be transposed into national law - it applies as directly applicable law in the EU member states.
According to the German Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (BMAS), changes in content concern the clarification of the scope of application and the adaptation of the essential requirements to the state of the art. The new regulation also provides for a simplified procedure for the extension of EU type examinations.
Also new are definitions and adapted conformity assessment procedures for custom-made and customized PPE.
