Fewer cyberattacks in February - risk remains high

The number of cyberattacks on Swiss companies fell by seven percent in February 2026 compared to the previous month. According to the latest data from Check Point Software Technologies, organizations in this country were exposed to an average of 1166 attacks per week.

Although Switzerland is below the European average of 1764 attacks, it remains under significant pressure.

The energy and utilities sector was once again particularly affected in February, followed by retail and public administration. In Germany, the figure was 1345 attacks per week, in Austria it was as high as 1785.

An average of 2086 cyberattacks per week were registered per organization worldwide. Educational institutions, public authorities and telecommunications companies are still considered to be particularly at risk.

At the same time, Check Point points to new risks posed by generative AI: Every 31st entry in GenAI tools contained a high risk of sensitive data being disclosed. 88 percent of companies that regularly use such applications were affected by this.

Despite a global decline in reported ransomware cases, the threat situation remains tense. In February, there were 49 active ransomware groups worldwide. According to Check Point, the increasing activity of new groups such as Qilin and Clop.

Marco Pierro, Country Manager Switzerland at Check Point, emphasizes: «The decline should not obscure the persistently high threat level. The increase in ransomware activities in particular remains critical.»
