CH security policy: draft meets with approval
The draft of a new report by the Federal Council on Switzerland's security policy has met with widespread approval. This has been shown by the consultation on the report. However, the security policy developments of recent months and the consultation results also require a certain amount of adjustment, as the Federal Council writes. The report will therefore be updated and adapted in certain areas.
The Consultation results on the Federal Council's new report on Switzerland's security policy are positive overall. A large majority considers the report to be a good basis for Switzerland's security policy and limits itself to selective amendments. This applies in particular to most of the cantons, which is particularly important from the Federal Council's point of view, since security policy in Switzerland is a joint task between the federal government and the cantons.
A minority is critical of the draft report or rejects it in principle. This is the case with individual political parties as well as with the majority of military organizations. The main point of criticism is the orientation and implementation of Swiss security policy, which is considered too vague or wrong for various, often opposing reasons.
The report's analysis of the security environment is largely undisputed. However, recent months have once again shown how volatile and unpredictable the situation is. Therefore, the report needs to be adapted to a certain extent solely on the basis of real developments.
Against this backdrop, the Federal Council has decided to update and adapt the draft report in certain areas on the basis of the security policy developments of recent months and the results of the consultation process. The report is to be definitively adopted by the Federal Council in August and forwarded to parliament.
