Facts and hypotheses about 5G

Lately, you can find advertisements for the new 5G mobile network almost everywhere. This promises unprecedented possibilities and advantages. But what does 5G really mean for Switzerland? The document "Facts and hypotheses on the final roll-out of 5G" provides information on the most important key points and uses impressive examples to show what the roll-out of 5G would mean for people and the environment. Switzerland would have to serve as a guinea pig because it wants to push ahead with the rollout of 5G the fastest in the world.

The population is reacting with increasing hostility to the planned expansion of 5th generation mobile communications. They have recognized the enormous dimensions of the project, but there is no factual basis for a constructive and further discussion. The "Facts and Hypotheses on the Final 5G Expansion" of the association 5G moratorium is now intended to provide an initial overview. This is based primarily on information from the antenna manufacturer Ericsson, the experience of radio technicians and statements from Bakom. The calculations were derived from the information provided by the antenna manufacturer Ericsson and are documented with solutions.

135,000 new base and medium mobile stations needed

At first glance, it is evident that the introduction of 5G exceeds the dimensions of existing technical structures in Switzerland. In the settlement area alone (7.5% of the total area of Switzerland), more than 135,000 base and medium mobile radio systems would be required. The distances would ideally have to be 150 meters or less to ensure sufficiently fast and large data transmission. The base installations must all additionally be equipped with above-average 4G antennas, because 5G is based on a strong 4G network. These installations are joined by several million small cells between the buildings and amplifiers in the buildings added.

The number of these small and micro cells cannot be estimated. The Radiation exposure would increase on the one hand due to the number of new mobile radio antennas, on the other hand also due to the much higher transmitting powers. Just ten years ago, most mobile communications systems were built with a transmission power of a few hundred watts ERP. Today, 4G antennas have a transmitting power of around 2,000 watts ERP or more. The new 5G antennas have a transmission power of 31,650 watts ERP for data transmission in one direction, and 7,840 watts ERP for data transmission in multiple directions, according to the manufacturer Ericsson.
