Switzerland responds to citizen protests against 5G

As is known, strong protests among the Swiss population caused some cities and cantons not to introduce 5G for the time being. The Swiss government/Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) reacted to this with a letter to all cantons dated April 17, 2019, in which the expansion of mobile communications is defended, but at the same time compliance with the Swiss precautionary values is also defended for 5G.

diagnose:funk asked a lawyer to interpret the Swiss government's letter to all cantons, including its consequences for Germany.

A Moratorium for 5G is justified:

1 In detail, the "Information to the cantons. Mobile radio and Radiation: Deployment of 5G networks in Switzerland" on April 17, 2019 regarding the state of research:

"From research, there are observations of varying degrees of certainty that there are other biological effects that cannot be attributed to warming.

According to scientific criteria, an influence on brain waves has been sufficiently proven.

Limited evidence exists for an effect on brain blood flow, impaired sperm quality, destabilization of genetic information, and effects on gene expression, programmed cell death, and oxidative cell stress.

It is not known whether there are any health effects associated with this, nor whether there are any thresholds regarding the intensity and duration of the radiation."

This evaluation of the FOEN dates back to 2013 and, in the opinion of the FOEN, fully confirmed the need for precaution: "From a scientific point of view, the application of the precautionary principle in the regulation of this radiation is thus still indicated, as is practiced with the precautionary installation limits in Switzerland." (Letter 7.2., p.4)
