Suva lowers premiums again for 2023
For Suva 2021, Suva reports a positive annual result of CHF 331 million. Thanks to a favorable risk development and surplus investment income, premiums will decrease exceptionally strongly in 2023.
With an annual result of 331 million Swiss francs, Suva can look back on a positive financial year. All insurance branches are financially in balance, as the Swiss accident insurance company communicated last Friday at the balance sheet media conference in Lucerne.
Exceptionally low premiums
The excess investment income has an overall positive impact on premiums in 2023.
The Suva Council has decided to use 824 million francs for the benefit of the insurance company. This corresponds to a reimbursement of 20 percent of the net premiums for all insured persons. However, depending on the claims experience, different developments can be observed in the individual risk classes.
As a result, the average premium burden in both occupational accident insurance (OI) and non-occupational accident insurance (NIA) will again be extraordinarily low in 2023. Already in the previous year, Suva spoke of historically low premiums.
450,000 registered accidents and occupational diseases
In total, Suva registered around 450,000 accidents and occupational illnesses in 2021. By comparison, there were 430,000 accidents and occupational illnesses in the previous year. This was more than in the first corona year 2020, but still significantly less than in 2019.
In its prevention work, Suva wants to continue to do risk- and impact-oriented work with the "Prevention Program 2020+" and create an impact-oriented prevention culture instead of a "rule culture".
