Unannounced fire safety inspections: Eight Zurich clubs pass inspection

On Saturday night, fire safety experts from Schutz & Rettung Zürich carried out unannounced checks in eight Zurich clubs, bars and discos. The result was positive from the authorities' point of view: With the exception of one minor deficiency, all the establishments inspected received a good report card.

The inspections focused in particular on freely accessible escape routes, fire protection-compliant materials and unhindered access for the fire department. The operations were accompanied by Lars Mülli, Director of GVZ Gebäudeversicherung Kanton Zürich.

According to the GVZ, the checks in all locations went smoothly. The operators had reacted cooperatively and security staff had been well informed about escape routes and available extinguishing agents. Information on the number of guests present was also provided immediately.

Only in one company did an escape route have to be cleared of impermissible fire loads during the inspection.

«We can give all eight businesses a good report card,» said Lars Mülli after the inspections were completed. He thanked both the fire safety experts and the operators for their prudence in terms of personal safety.

In the city of Zurich, clubs are regularly inspected, even unannounced. Establishments with up to 300 people are inspected at least every four years, larger establishments every two years.

Fire police inspections are carried out on the basis of directive 20.02 of the GVZ Gebäudeversicherung Kanton Zürich.
