Suisse Public: Where digitization takes hold

What will the rescue service of the future look like? What is the state of digitization in Swiss municipalities? And how important will AI become in the public sector? These and many other questions will be answered at the Suisse Public trade fair.

From June 6 to 9, Suisse Public will showcase a comprehensive industry overview and networking platform for professionals and procurement managers from municipal, cantonal and federal authorities at the Bernexpo site (see also here). But there's more: During Suisse Public SMART, which is more or less a trade fair within the trade fair, current topics are discussed with experts during panel discussions and lectures, and various exhibits are demonstrated directly on site in a miniature smart city. New drones, smart lighting systems and cycle paths, modern car-sharing services, intelligent video surveillance systems and much more can be examined directly in the so-called "Solution Park". This practical venue vividly demonstrates how intelligent technology is increasingly finding its way into our everyday lives.

Challenges for communities and blue light organizations

What will the maintenance yard of the future look like? Will fully automated cleaning crews soon be cleaning the streets? There will be answers on Tuesday, 6.6. But what is already certain is that the number of electronic vehicles at the service of a municipality is constantly increasing. In short: there have never been so many electric cars from different manufacturers to examine on site. This Schwendimann from System Alpenluft and others will give presentations on this topic.

On Wednesday, 7.6., the focus will be on the smart further development of municipal infrastructures in Swiss municipalities. How are AI and open data being used for services and infrastructure, and what projects are in the pipeline? How does all this relate to climate neutrality and the mobility revolution? And in which areas do municipalities still need to improve? Among others, Marco Rupp, President of the Municipality of Ittigen, and Marco Sonderegger, President of the Swiss Association of Municipal Infrastructure, will be on hand to answer questions.

Is digitalization overtaxing municipal administration? Which paths are being taken by municipalities to drive forward the digital transformation? And where is there still resistance? Among others, Madeleine Deckert, mayor of Leubringen/Magglingen, Jolanda Brunner, mayor of Spiez, and Erich Fehr, mayor of Biel, will participate in a panel discussion and exchange ideas with others on Thursday. In addition, a representative survey will be presented on the topic of the status of digitization strategies and projects, where a good three quarters of all Swiss municipalities participated.

What all do emergency services have to consider when an electric car or several of them are on fire in one place, and why is this a new challenge that emergency services have to face? On Friday, 9.6., there will be answers to these questions. In addition: infrastructure operators are increasingly relying on digitalization to optimize their services. What challenges does this pose for police, fire and rescue services? Which smart helpers are already in use and which are waiting in the wings? Among others, Christian Bieri, Head of Operations and Training Fire Department Canton Bern, will discuss this topic.

Fire department in action

And if you're in the mood for action and exercise after the theory block, you can attend a live firefighting event. That's because the "FireFit Europe Tour" is making an exclusive stop in Bern. Those interested can be eyewitnesses when firefighters practice on the spectacular training tower on Tuesday and Wednesday, and then compete on Thursday and Friday, showing what they can do and the great skill with which they face numerous dangers in front of a live audience.
