High demand for mobile access systems

Convenience and ease of use are considered the most important reasons why many companies are considering switching to a new access control system. Mobile access control, meanwhile, is the trend. These are the findings of HID Global's State of Access Control Report 2022.

Demand for mobile access control systems is on the rise, according to a study. One of the most common reasons given for switching to mobile access control is the "convenience factor". The longer an access system is used, the more it should not only secure the premises, but also ensure a smooth process between users, occupants and administrators, as well as facility managers, for example. This is stated by 60 percent of the respondents in the newly published trend report "State of Access Control 2022" by HID Global.

Upgrading after the pandemic

It is not entirely surprising that demand for mobile access systems is increasing. 42 percent of respondents are planning to upgrade to mobile systems. Employees generally find access more convenient and secure, especially since they can usually reach their mobile devices more quickly than their access cards. The pandemic also had an impact on these trends, according to the report. For example, around 32 percent of respondents said they will now upgrade and consider contactless systems after the Corona period.

Interoperability and energy issues

However, the interoperability of the systems also plays a role, for example, in order to be able to save more costs. Accordingly, almost half of the respondents want to rely on technologies that can be integrated with existing security platforms. There is a tendency to increasingly turn away from proprietary systems and to rely on open standards, where upgrades can also be easily managed. 28 percent of respondents had consulted their sustainability departments on this. As a result, there is also a trend toward access control readers that have an environmental declaration and intelligent power-saving management.

The "State of Access Control 2022" surveyed 1,000 companies from North America (56 percent) and 29 percent from EMEA and 15 percent from Asia Pacific.
