Award-winning project managers for security systems
Once again, 18 young professionals from the security industry have completed the "Security Systems Project Manager with Federal Certificate" course run by the Swiss Association of Security Systems Installers (SES).
Jan Zurlinden (33), father of two young children, took the project manager course to get ahead on the career ladder. After successfully completing the course with a federally recognized diploma, he is proud to have filled his rucksack with sound know-how. What's more, he not only has the certificate in his pocket, but also achieved top marks in the security course. Chapeau!
"In addition to my full-time job at a security technology company, the several months of further training were a major challenge. There was little room for free time. But the effort was worth it and I'm glad to have acquired the necessary skills for the future." The trained electrician worked in his profession for a few years before switching to the security industry six years ago.
Learned know-how gives confidence
Zurlinden sees it as an advantage that he was able to gain experience in various security areas such as burglary technology, video surveillance and access control at his employer. He deepened his previous knowledge at the Winterthur Technical College (STFW), as the SES course is held at the institution there. The graduate describes the training as "somewhat theory-heavy" and says that everyone has to put it into practice in their free time or at work. The 33-year-old points out that the know-how he has acquired gives him the confidence he needs to implement a safety project correctly in practice and to comply with legal requirements and standards. Thanks to the well-founded documentation from this higher vocational training, he now knows where to look if necessary to obtain the necessary information.
He also benefited in particular from the general subjects such as law, business administration and management, which are taught thanks to the project manager training. "Today, I know how to tackle a particular project in order to implement it successfully," says the "exam high-flyer".
Important contribution to the industry
Jan Zurlinden also mentions the positive professional exchange with his colleagues in Winterthur. Because, like him, various other professionals have attended the STFW: 18 young men have successfully completed one of the two specialist areas of security or fire on the GSES22 project manager course - one person did not take the exam and one participant has to repeat it.
Martin Altorfer, SES President and CEO of Securiton AG, congratulated the graduates with a "Bravo!" at the end of January. He knows from his own experience what it means to pursue further training while working and to give up a lot in your private life during this time. With the federal certificate in their pockets, they are now part of a steadily growing professional group of proven specialists in security technology.
The SES Association has been offering this higher vocational training course in collaboration with the STFW since 2009. According to figures, around 250 representatives of the security industry have already completed the course. "With this and other training courses, SES aims to make an important contribution to the sustainable development of the Swiss security industry and create long-term benefits for its members, customers and partners," emphasized the President at the graduation ceremony in a prestigious restaurant in the city of Zurich.
Good prospects in the 800 million market
In his speech, Altorfer also pointed out that the Swiss security technology market currently generates over 800 million Swiss francs and is growing continuously. Security technology is not simply a subordinate part of building technology, but an independent and important discipline in the planning, construction and operation of buildings and infrastructures. This also increases the need for well-trained specialists. "You have therefore made a wise decision with this further training, which will also pay off from an economic perspective in the coming years," said the SES President to the young specialists.

Those who persevere to the end can look forward to a federal certificate after passing the exam.
